Welcome to Rockbeare Primary School. We hope you will enjoy a long and happy association with us.

The school lies at the heart of the village and the community that serves it. It is set in attractive grounds and has a games field, large playground, hall, library and bright sunny classrooms.

The school has a proud history beginning some time before 1872. We cannot be sure of the exact date as the original Trust Deed was destroyed in the Exeter Blitz. We do know, however, that it began in what is now the lower classroom with moneys donated by the Bolitho family, on land rented by the church for 5/-annually. The newer part of the building was completed in the late 1950's when the existing site and further buildings were given by Mrs Dorothy Margaret Follett, grandmother of the late Mrs Caroline Noel of Rockbeare Manor.

A pelican was chosen for the school badge because the pelican is depicted plucking feathers from its breast to make a nest for its young, demonstrating care and protection. The lectern in St Mary's Church, Rockbeare, is in the form of a pelican instead of the more usual eagle.
