Preschool curriculum

The Preschool curriculum at Rockbeare Preschool

We follow the Department of Education 2021 non-statutory curriculum, Development matters. It offers a top-level view of how children develop and learn and builds on their strengths while meeting the needs of all children. The curriculum consists of everything you want children to experience, learn and be able to do. The EYFS is about how children learn, as well as what they learn. Children need opportunities to develop their own play and independent exploration. This is enjoyable and motivating. They also need adults to ‘scaffold’ their learning by giving them just enough help to achieve something they could not do independently. Helping children to think, discuss and plan ahead is important, like gathering the materials they need to make a den before they start building. These are ways of helping children to develop the characteristics of effective learning. At Rockbeare Preschool, we provide the children with all they need to be successful in EYFS.

How we use the Development matters in Acorn class

In Preschool, we have a book of the week that inspire our adventures. This week we read Whatever next! and zoomed off to the moon to have a picnic with owl. The children had such fun using their gross motor skills, communication skills to build friendships and imagination in our expedition to the moon.
